Senior Database Administrator

Job Summary:
The Intersect Group is seeking a Database Administrator/Engineer for our direct client, where you will play a pivotal role in managing and modernizing our data architecture to support robust ETL processes, data lifecycles, and data-driven decision-making. You will leverage cloud technologies such as Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric to design, develop, and maintain scalable data solutions. This role involves establishing data management policies, optimizing database environments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance. A significant focus will be placed on overseeing and enhancing our existing on-premise SQL servers, while also contributing to the migration of these environments to cloud-based solutions and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Data Architecture Management:
    • Design and manage data architectures to support efficient ETL processes, ensuring seamless data integration, transformation, and loading across both on-premise and cloud platforms. 
    • Develop and maintain data models and database schemas that align with business requirements and support various analytical use cases.
  • Database and Data Lifecycle Management:
    • Oversee and maintain comprehensive database environments, with a strong focus on on-premise SQL servers, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and data integrity.
    • Manage and optimize databases by writing and tuning SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies to support high-performance data access and retrieval.
    • Implement robust data backup, restore, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity and data security.
  • Cloud Integration and Modernization:
    • Lead the migration of on-premise SQL environments to cloud-based architectures. Develop strategies for data storage, partitioning, and access control in a cloud environment.
    • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps to automate deployment, testing, and monitoring of data solutions. Optimize data workflows for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Security, Compliance, and Data Governance:
    • Develop and enforce data management policies, playbooks, and standards to ensure compliance with role-based access controls (RBAC) and regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate with data governance teams to establish frameworks for data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Work closely with corporate data analytics teams, business stakeholders, data architects, and engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions and documentation.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, ensuring adherence to best practices in data architecture and engineering.
  • Troubleshooting and Technical Support:
    • Monitor and troubleshoot data architecture, pipelines, and processes to identify and resolve issues. Proactively address data-related challenges to minimize downtime and ensure data quality and reliability.
    • Support end-users and stakeholders by addressing data-related issues and providing technical guidance as needed.
  • Documentation and Continuous Improvement:
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for  data architectures, pipelines, and system configurations. Contribute to continuous improvement by exploring and recommending alternatives to existing processes and technologies.
  • Qualifications and Experience:
    • 7+ years of experience in database administration, data engineering, or a related field, with a strong focus on managing on-premise SQL servers as well as Cloud-based data architectures.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL (on-premises and cloud), Azure SQL & Managed Instances, Microsoft Fabric, and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps.
    • Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or other relevant Microsoft certifications.
    • Experience supporting and managing data warehousing platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse 
    • Experience automating database/infrastructure tasks using PowerShell
    • Knowledge of and experience with Azure Logic Apps strongly preferred

    • Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical stakeholders.
